Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips

Moms taking over here for just a minute.

Photobucket

Even though we overindulge for the holiday, we should be careful about what we let our pets eat during the Thanksgiving holiday. The ASPCA has some great Thanksgiving tips:

Talkin’ Turkey

If you decide to feed your pet a little nibble of turkey, make sure it’s boneless and well-cooked. Don't offer her raw or undercooked turkey, which may contain salmonella bacteria.

Sage Advice

Sage can make your Thanksgiving stuffing taste delish, but it and many other herbs contain essential oils and resins that can cause gastrointestinal upset and central nervous system depression to pets if eaten in large quantities. Cats are especially sensitive to the effects of certain essential oils.

No Bread Dough

Don't spoil your pet’s holiday by giving him raw bread dough. According to ASPCA experts, when raw bread dough is ingested, an animal's body heat causes the dough to rise in his stomach. As it expands, the pet may experience vomiting, severe abdominal pain and bloating, which could become a life-threatening emergency, requiring surgery.

Don't Let Them Eat Cake

If you’re baking up Thanksgiving cakes, be sure your pets keep their noses out of the batter, especially if it includes raw eggs—they could contain salmonella bacteria that may lead to food poisoning.

Too Much of a Good Thing

A few small boneless pieces of cooked turkey, a taste of mashed potato or even a lick of pumpkin pie shouldn’t pose a problem. However, don't allow your pets to overindulge, as they could wind up with a case of stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse—an inflammatory condition of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. In fact, it’s best keep pets on their regular diets during the holidays.

A Feast Fit for a Kong

While the humans are chowing down, give your cat and dog their own little feast. Offer them rawhide strips, Nylabones or made-for-pet chew bones. Or stuff their usual dinner—perhaps with a few added tidbits of turkey, vegetables (try sweet potato or green beans) and dribbles of gravy—inside a Kong toy. They’ll be happily occupied for awhile, working hard to extract their dinner from the toy.

We Need Your Help

Moms has been busy making Christmas Banners for our blog. She's made 3 that we kinda like. Moms said we could have our favorite on the blog, but we've been fighting over which one is the best. We need your help to decide, so Moms has created a poll. The poll will close on November 25th, so get your votes in. Here are the choices.

The Busy Takes It Out of Us!

Yesterday after Moms got home from work, she was busy, busy busy! She was working on some Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff. She had to get all the good food, and she had to make our family ornament for church, and she had a bunch of errands to do too. She also got our very special Christmas outfits, while she was out. So now, we'll have new stuff to model for our bloggie. Molly is REALLY excited, because her outfit is a dress...(and we all know that she loves to flaunt her princess-ness in her dresses! Ughhh!)

It was way late, when Mom was finally able to sit down. We were so tired from the commotion, that we conked out with our pillow and blankie without her.

I'll be glad, when Mom is able to relax a little.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Moms was busy ALL weekend. She was busy cleaning house, practicing for her swimmy thing, and also decorating the outside of our house for Christmas. Sheesh, she was SO busy, that we didn't even get to go to the fenced yard to play. I guess that I'll forgive her this once. She did let me wear my fancy new dress. Whaddya guys think? I tried to smile real pretty, even though I wanted to go outside!

Afternoon Fall Walk

Late Sunday afternoon, Moms took me for a REALLY nice walk. It was nice and warm, and we walked until dark! The leaves had started falling, and I had a great time walking through the piles and walking through them in the ditches. Check out how much fun me and my friend, Trixie, were having in the leaves!

We went through the park again, and our horse buddy seemed to be glad to see us. She and Mom visited quite a bit! Mom says next time, we're taking an apple with us, because horsies LOVE apples!

It's raining today, so I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow for another walk! I can't wait!

Family Portrait

Look at our new family picture!! This was made for a friend of Moms' website. Even though it was made last year (June 2008), Moms just got to see it for the first time. It was before Jack and Daisy joined our family. Also, our sister Shiloh isn't in it, because she was too skeered!

A Growwwwl and A Treat!!

I'm very vocal with my luvins. When Moms tries to hug me up, I tell her how much I love her!! My auntie Linda took this video of me and Moms, when we visited her last month.

I Said No Hugs from Linda Lindsey on Vimeo.

Afterwards, I did my best "little angel" pose, so Granny Della would give me a lifesaver. Ain't I cute?
