Dogs have served in the U.S. military during every modern war—World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, in Bosnia, and in Afghanistan—as trackers, scouts, sentries, and messengers; as attack dogs, mine detection dogs, and rescue dogs.

The dogs are credited with saving thousands of American lives and great acts of heroism.

Please don't forget to remember all of the 4 legged veterans of war. To read more about these very special veterans click HERE, HERE, and HERE.

  6. What a nice tribute, thanks.
Airedales were used in the WW1 effort, as messengers. They must have had a different temperament back then. We would never make the cut....BOL

  8. My brother was an veternarian in the Army. I once said to him, "Well, at least you don't have to worry about going to war!" How wrong I was! He'd be called to care for the dogs and he would also be expected to help in the hospitals. Luckily, he never had to go to war. My dad did though.

I meant to acknowledge this on my blog but I wasn't feeling well Thursday or Friday.
